I flooded the wood with solution and let it dry in the sun for 20 minutes.Pull out the wiping stick (ramrod) and pour out the fluid, dry, and oil the bore. Lightly oil all the metal parts, and wipe down the wooden stock. Done. From time to time wipe the stock with something; linseed oil, furniture polish, Marvel Mystery Oil, whatever depending on the type of finish on your rifle stock.Learned this trick from my father who used to cast fishing sinkers. IMO, it does help with allowing the balls to exit the mould easier. If you have a mold where bullets stick, take 0000 steel wool and gently polish the edges of the cavities. There are many Yazel pistols that look like a cross between a traditional sidelock or underhammer gun and a modern Colt 1911 or a High Standard ...Then make a cutter along the design of a couple of saw teeth that fit the groove. This can cut the groove deeper and is advanced to the next groove. Then a paper shim is placed under the cutter and the process is repeated till the grooves are deepened to your goal. A slow and labor intensive job but rather simple.This method will tell you if the flash channel is clear of any debris left over from cleaning and storage. Place a cap on the nipple and point the rifle in a safe direction and pull the trigger. Remove the first cap hull and place another cap. Point the rifle toward the ground. These hole direct the blow back gases outward and help split the cap for easy removal. My other choice of nipples would be the Knight "Red Hot". Both nipples come in sizes to fit your rifles. Using a 50 yard zero, the difference in drop between the two at this range is less then an inch, 45cal (4.9"), 58cal (5.7"), The initial gap in velocity evens up at 100 yards with the 45cal at 997FPS compared to the 58cal at 992FPS, even with the 300FPS difference at the muzzle. I tried blasting it out atleast 10 times it hasn’t moved. I tried the grease gun but the grease went around the minie so that didn’t work. I broke two ball pullers of on the ball, JB welded the last puller into my rod and it still stripped the puller. I took it to a gunsmith with air and pullers and he couldn’t budge it.4. Hunting load was 90 grs.goex w/Lee minie bullet.The bullet is a 507 grain, with a single wrap 20# paper patch. The bullet goes down with a small amount of pressure, but not very much. Also, here castor oil is not hard to come by, but rather expensive at the pharmacy, and trust me, I have tried to find it cheaper as we use it in fuel for older radio control engines.A 1:48 twist in larger calibers (.45 and up) is generally very finicky in what it will shoot accurately with. Though a nicely made rifle and straight shooter it is defiantly my most disliked Muzzleloading rifle due to the heavy trigger and rather poor preforming lock.
